The Fish and the Bread

March 26, 2014

In the Gospels, the fish and the bread are symbols of good things to come. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who feeds the sheep with His Word. Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life. He who comes to me shall never hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world” (John 6:33-35). After Jesus’ Resurrection, the disciples fished all night and caught nothing (John 21:1-3). The next morning Jesus stood on the shore and instructed them to “Cast the net on the right side of the boat” (John 21:4-6). So when they cast the net they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish (John 21:6). The Kingdom of God is the Kingdom catch in the sea of humanity found on the right side of the boat (Matthew 25:32-34).
